YOUNG GUN COMES OF AGE.
41b Jason Long stunned the established stars of Superstock racing with a driving display that belies both his years and experience.
The THIRSTY WHALE AUTUMN NATIONALS was packed full of talent and it was obvious from the first turn we were in for some high powered full throttle race action. Shane Penn driving the 515r car was proving to all he can drive the wheels off anything while Tony Meechan was looking awesome in his new Tri rail 66. 92r Kyle Fraser was fast from the drop of the flag but it was Jason Long who stunned them all by bagging 2 immaculate heat victories back to back.
Heat 3 was going to be a tall order for Long who was grided 18. With Penn much nearer the front the meeting was still wide open.
31p Andy McCabe drove a stormer to take the win with all eyes further back on Long’s progress through the field. At the chequers Jason had hauled himself up to 8th place and the championship on 68pts from Penn 66 and Fraser third on 65. Jason’s win was well received by his fellow racers and his never say die, hard on the gas style is a huge hit with the fans.
The TOP 30 MINISTOCKS came down to a winner takes all final. 98b Max Bayley is probably wishing the season was just starting as he is on top of the game right now to bag a second title in 2 meetings. 46b Quinn Ryan as usual was lightning quick in second with 12b Sarah Whittington making dad Glen proud in third. Sarah would have to be one of the biggest improvers this season without doubt.
A big field of Stocks were on track gunning for the L & R KURU CUP and right up till the last lap 7b ”sneaky” Keith Hingston was the man for the job. Keith had a handy 6 point lead as he went over the line with one to go until the car died coming off the top turn, as much he tried to get someone to push the 7 car home no one took up the offer leaving poor Keith back in 4th on the points board. This heat turned the points right on it’s head with 17b Aaron Iremonger bouncing back from 6th to first equal with 74b Tony Palmer. 64b Randal Tarrant continued to grow his reputation in the class by bagging third overall after winning his runnoff , then it was time for Iremonger and Palmer to square up. When the lights went green neither car moved until Aaron made the break off the outside, Palmer waited on lap two but Iremonger had the pace to aviod the 74′s bumpers and made it back to back titles for this championship again taking home the impressive L & R Kuru Cup trophy.
